ADOLFO MORAIS
LL.B (Hons.), LL.L, J.D.
BARRISTER, SOLICITOR AND NOTARY PUBLIC
Founding Member of the Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association (CILA)
2012 J.D., University of Ottawa, ON, Canada
2010 B.C.L., Université Laval, QC, Canada
2002 LL.B, Universidade Federal de Goiás, Brazil
Adolfo holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa and is a founding partner at Boghossian Morais Immigration Lawyers.
Prior to his Juris Doctor, Adolfo obtained a Bachelor of Law from Université Laval, besides a Bachelor of Law from the Federal University of Goias (Universidade Federal de Goiás) in Brazil. At the University of Ottawa, Adolfo was awarded with the Éditions Yvon Blais Prize for the highest standing in one of the mandatory courses in the National Program of the Common Law Section. At Université Laval, he received a $10,000.00 scholarship and an award for the best student who was enrolled in the Bachelor of Law’s program and whose first language was not French (Bourse Theodore-et-Michael-Meighen).
In Brazil, Adolfo started his legal career as an intern working primarily with real estate transactions, mortgages and property law businesses. After being called to the Brazilian Bar in 2002, he started his own practice in civil litigation for matters related to consumer, banking and finance laws. Within less than a year of practice, Adolfo was invited to join a law firm in the National Capital of Brazil and, due to his outstanding achievements, he was offered a position to act as in-house counsel for one of the five biggest Brazilian insurance companies. Over the last three years before moving to Canada, Adolfo was also a member of the Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances (International Association of Insurance Law) and a legal advisor for the Brazilian National Federation of Registered Retirement Savings Plan and Life Insurance. In Canada, Adolfo developed a great interest for common law principles of fundamental justice and the connected areas of law, such as immigration and human rights laws.
Besides litigation and alternative dispute resolution, he is interested in constitutional, administrative and international laws, insofar as they deal with immigration issues. Upon completing his legal studies in Canada, Adolfo committed to a law firm in Ottawa downtown for his articling, after which he was called to the Ontario Bar in 2013. In January 2014, Adolfo joined a well-respected immigration law firm where he perfected his skills as a barrister and solicitor. The time has come for him to leave the firm and, in April 2018, he partnered with Tamar Boghossian to launch Boghossian Morais Immigration Lawyers.
Adolfo has developed a keen interest and has been working in and deepening his knowledge of Canadian immigration law since he was called to the Ontario Bar in 2013. He has worked in various matters before the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the Canada Border Services Agency, and he has appeared in many instances before the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court of Canada.
Besides his passion for immigration law, Adolfo loves to spend time with his family and friends, and he takes pleasure in cooking and in camping during the summer.
Adolfo is fluent in Brazilian Portuguese, English and French languages.
